University Forest teaching and research center closes after more than 60 years

The education center is situated on 160 acres in north Butler County, MO. Within a few minutes' drive are Lake Wappapello, Mingo Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Duck Creek Wildlife Area, and the Black and St. Francis River watersheds.

Education – A Unique Outdoor Classroom Opportunity

The University Forest Environmental Education Center is located at the southeast edge of the Missouri Ozarks, a unique and remote wildland habitat that provides first-hand experiences in upland and bottomland forest ecology.

Research – Long-term and Cutting-edge

Since 1947, numerous research projects have been carried out at University Forest Environmental Education Center; some offering invaluable long-term datasets and others addressing today’s emerging questions.

Outreach – The Perfect Ozark Retreat

University Forest is not only used by MU faculty and students as an off-campus field station for education and research, it is also home to a growing number of continuing professional education workshops and seminars by governmental, educational and ecologically-related organizations.
